Every job I ever had involved communication and especially editing. I live to read, to learn, to listen. I care about language and am opinionated about its usage. That said, I’ve worked as a lexicographer, so know that “proper” usage can be fluid. I like to assess usage according to the medium and the audience.

My style guide of choice is The Chicago Manual of Style, and my dictionary of choice is, as Chicago recommends, Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. Other guides I respect and draw from are The Elements of Style, William Fowler, and the best two editors I ever knew, Barbara Salazar and Marina Todd.

Just thought I’d draw that line in the sand for you.
